The good, the bad, the ugly

08/01/06

Last week was a whirlwind tour for TC. It began on Wednesday night at Seekonk with the Modified Madness 100 where he appeared to be headed to Victory Lane before it was snatched away in a late-race incident and ended on Saturday night with a solid performance at Holland Speedway’s Whelen Modified Tour event.

The Seekonk event brought together an outstanding field of Modifieds that pitted the best of the WMT against the best from the True Value Modified Racing Series. TC was at the wheel of the Brady Bunch #00. After qualifying through his heat race he lined up sixth for the feature. With a strong car under him Teddy drove to the lead in the fist third of the race. That set up a classic battle for the win with TVMRS top dog Kirk Alexander that lasted over 50 laps. It ended when TC was booted from the lead after a bump from Alexander and he had to pick up at the rear of the field. Alexander sailed to victory while Teddy ended up a very disappointing 13th.

On Thursday night he was at the controls of the Jensen Racing #79 Sunoco Modified. Despite some motor problems TC brought the car home in the top-ten in a race that went from green-to-checkered without a caution.

Saturday at Holland Teddy was behind the wheel of the #36 Modified. After qualifying a disappointing 14th fastest, he drove a smart, steady race and was rewarded with a solid second place finish behind Tony Hirschman.

“It was quite a week,” proclaimed TC. “I won’t go into details but anyone who was at Seekonk knows what happened. It was clear that the officials were giving the Tour guys a raw deal all night long. If they didn’t want us to race there they should have just told us to stay home. Joe and his crew gave me a great racecar to drive. I took the lead in the first 30 laps and had a pretty good battle going with Alexander. I don’t know for sure if I had enough to hold him off but I guess hen decided to take matters into his own hands. He just drove into my left rear and turned me around. He even admitted it in Victory Lane after the race. But I guess the officials saw what they wanted to see and left him up front while I had to start at the rear. I felt really bad for Joe Brady. He gave me a car capable of winning and it would have meant a lot to him to win the race. I guess Alexander did what he felt he needed to do to win and he got away with it. All I can say is what goes around comes around.

“At Holland we had a really good car in practice. Richie Niemiec has started working with us back in the shop and that was the best the car has been all year. I think he is going make us an even better team. We didn’t qualify as well as we should have and we need to work on our time trialing. But the car was awesome in the race. I drove to the front and swapped second a couple of times with (Mike) Stefanik before taking the position. I didn’t have anything for Hirschman tonight but we had a solid run and we’re only going to get better. I’m looking forward to Riverhead next week.”
