Coming off his victory at Jennerstown, TC and the #36 team were hoping for more success in Thursday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour New England Dodge Dealers 100 at Thompson. But it was not meant to be and the night ended up with a wrecked racecar parked behind the pit wall.
After struggling to find a good setup in practice, TC qualified a disappointing 29th fastest in time trials. Starting near the back of the field, he hoped to work his way to the front. But in the early laps it was obvious the car was still not up to par. When the first caution flag of the race waved on lap 48, he headed to pit road for some adjustments. He returned to the track but was still struggling to move forward. It looked like a top-ten finish would be at least a moral victory. But even those hopes were dashed on the 69th circuit as Teddy was caught up in a melee on the backstretch. The radiator was punctured and the #36 had to be parked for the remainder of the race, credited with a 29th place finish.
“We just never could find the right setup today,” TC explained. “We changed a bunch of things during practice but we were still way off in time trials. It was an impound race so we couldn’t make any changes after qualifying. We were hoping we would get an early caution and pit to make some adjustments, but unfortunately we didn’t get a yellow until just before halfway. By then we had used up the right rear tire and all we could do is get it as good as possible and just ride it out to the end. I think we were capable of a top-ten finish but we got caught up in a wreck and punctured the radiator. All we can do now is put it behind us and try to do better at Stafford on the Fourth of July.”
