Back on track

05/28/08

After a few weeks of rain since the Spring Sizzler, TC was back in action at Stafford last Friday night. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was back in town for the TSI Harley-Davidson 150 as well as a full schedule of weekly classes.

First up for Teddy were the SK Modifieds. A DNF at the season opener a month ago relegated him toward the rear of the starting field on Friday night. An early race spin sent him to the back for a second time. As he worked his way up through the field, Woody Pitkat looked to have a dominant racecar. But TC kept his never-give-up attitude and with just three circuits remaining made a daring pass for the lead in turns three and four. From there he was never headed and won the 40-lap feature.

“I had a really good car tonight,” smiled Teddy. “I was battling for the lead when I got together with Brad Hietala and that put us at the rear, but it didn’t hurt the car. I never gave up and just kept working my way back to the front. With about five laps to go I had caught Woody. With three laps to go I dove under him in turn three and that won us the race.”

Just before the NASCAR Modified Tour feature, Mother Nature tried her best to derail the program. But after a lengthy rain delay the field was lined up and ready to go racing. After qualifying fourth fastest in time trials, Teddy drew the fourth starting position for the race. Polesitter Chuck Hossfeld grabbed the early lead in the Mystic Missile #4 as TC settled into fourth in the Al-Lee Installations #36. He held that position until pitting just before the 100-lap mark.

By lap 130 Teddy was back up to third behind Hossfeld and Todd Szegedy. He held that position over the final 20 laps.

“We felt we had a good car tonight going into the race,” explained TC, “but the rain that fell just before our feature hurt us. Being an impound race we couldn’t make any adjustments to the car and pretty much had to just ride it out. I definitely don’t like these impound races. But we got a decent finish and we’re looking forward to the next race at Thompson.”

This coming Friday night Teddy will be back at Stafford in the #13 SK trying to make it two wins in a row.
