Tuesday night was a tough one for TC in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. After an afternoon rain shower hit the speedway, it made an already slick surface even more treacherous. There were moments of promise during the evening but in the end it was mostly disappointment.
In the #36 Modified, Teddy time trialed 9th fastest and barely missed the redraw for starting positions in the 25-lap feature. Lined up on the inside of the fifth row, he was trying to work his way forward in traffic. He was involved in an early skirmish and had to go to the rear of the field. Passing continues to be difficult on the new pavement and at the checkered flag TC was scored in 15th place.
In the #29 Cushman Competition Super Late Model, Teddy had a good qualifying effort and ended up third fastest. In the opening laps of the 30-lap main he was battling for second with Jack Landis and there was contact, sending Landis into the wall and out of the race. Race officials decided to put TC to the back of the field. He did recover to finish a respectable seventh.
“It was just a bad night,” said Teddy. “The track has been slick and one groove all week, and the rain shower washed off whatever rubber had built up. I guess the best I can say about tonight is I’m glad it’s over and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Wednesday’s schedule has the Modifieds running a50-lap feature and the Super Late Models the usual 30-lapper.
