TC and the Bear Motorsports team got out of the starting blocks quickly in Friday night’s opener for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. After qualifying third fastest, Teddy drew the pole position for the 25lap feature.
Eric Beers lined up next to the #14 and fell in behind Ted as he quickly opened a comfortable margin. Beers, driving his own #9, gradually whittled away at the deficit and by the halfway mark had closed tight on the rear bumper of the Bearmobile. He was giving the leader a strong challenge but TC had him covered at every turn. A couple of late cautions kept it interesting, but at the checkered flag it was Teddy by the narrowest of margins over Beers followed by John Blewett, George Kent and Jeff Malave in the second Brady Bunch machine. John White finished 17th to earn the night’s SK Bonus.
“It obviously made our job tonight easier starting from the pole,” admitted TC. “You always want to get the first win under your belt as soon as you can. It makes the rest of the series a little bit easier. We made a lot of changes to the car for the feature and we freed it up too much. I pulled away from Beers at the start of the race pretty easily but he was able to close back in after ten laps. He would challenge for a lap or two and then I was able to pull away again, but then the car really was free and he was right there. I just ran my line and he couldn’t get by me. We know what changes to make to the car now and we’ll be even better tomorrow night.”
